Update maps garmin streetpilot
I never worried about permissions or whatsoever and the modifications work fine. Only thing is to force the Garmin to close doubleclick home buton and keep icon pushed until x appears to close.

Once you've installed Garmin 2. Instructions on where to download the map files, how to install them on your iPhone, and what directories the map, JCV, and SID files need to be placed in can be found elsewhere in this forum. I used WinSCP to copy the modified plist files from my PC to my iPhone but you are more than welcome to use whatever tool fits the bill here.
Note--if before having read these instructions you had downloaded these files in the past, please redownload them--turns out I uploaded older revisions of my plist files Make sure that the Location Services icon appears at the top of the iPhone screen--by waiting for it to appear, you will at least give the Garmin app enough time to generate the files that you will need to delete later on in this tutorial--LOL.
Once you've completed steps above, then proceed to deleting the following files--again, I used WinSCP but you can use whatever works for you. Also--you may want to refresh the directory listing just in case they don't show up right away when you go into the directories listed below: 7 Delete all of the Cache.
Make sure that the files you deleted in steps are actually indeed deleted! Hope this finally ends the puzzle on how to get everything to work in 2. I checked on ebay and I see a number of cs for sale with maps on sd cards. Not sure how they are working if it has an incompatible map format. Your working My first thoughts were the map you wanted to download were larger than the 2GB maps your girlfriends StreetPilot could read but that is not the case.
That map does not display the message Even a small map of Chile displays the not compatible message. These devices also will not be able to use the following products in the pre-programmed card or download format:. Seeing that error message at the Garmin site caused me to instantly think NT vs non-NT without even taking into consideration the current map used by the OP. You can read all about that GPS here:. These are the last Non-NT maps produced for North America and there have been 7 map updates since their release in so by todays standards they are still very old.
To be honest with you, that unit is an old dog and I wouldn't put any money into it. You can buy a new Nuvi for what the maps will probably cost if you can find them.
The possible good news is that I own those maps and will never use them again so if you feel ambitious and want to play with that unit I'd be happy to simply give the maps to you. Get back to me if you are interested. All is not rosey though. Those maps will "theoretically" work in that unit. The caveat is that the map tiles smallest map segments you can get from those maps that can be selected for loading onto the data card might be to large to even fit on the data card cards came in multiple sizes.
Over the years, Garmin made a lot of changes to the sizes of the map segments as the different GPS models came out with more internal memory. And the above comments pretty much cover it.
You would have to purchase City Navigator Version 8 dated and get an unlock code that would permit the map segments to be copied to the proprietary data card used in that particular GPSr. I have a MB card and can copy the equivalent of about 4 mid-west states on it. If making a cross country trip, you would have to selectively copy segments that cover your intended route; hopefully all the segments needed will fit on that data card.
The map segments are copied from MapSource to the data card either through the serial cable and this is an incredibly slow process, or via the USB data card programmer; faster, but let's not say fast.
The proprietary Meg stick mine had didn't hold much for maps. But anyways, its good to hear that Garmin still is in the business of updating their maps!! I love Garmin!! I downloaded the yesterday took about 50 minutes and it would not install. I called Support and he said they had a problem they were working on and it should be up today.
About nine thirty this morning I tried again and it installed cleanly in less than a half hour. I have never heard of an update that took less than 1. The download was about minutes.
The installation after extraction took the balance of time. I just bought a garmin The first version came out in April version Garmin releases map updates up to 4 times a year, so the next version is expected soon. You might want to wait a little while to download until the new version is out. The nuMaps gaurantee gives you 60 days to update maps on a new Garmin, but you can only update one time.
My came today, and I am in the process of running the free update. It still had the maps. Log In Sign Up. Home » Garmin talk. Login or register to post comments. AR, If the places you normally travel or expect to visit are established without a lot of new roads then there's really little need to update. More important to me than roads is updated points of interest.
Many businesses come and go over time and new maps keep you up to date on them. I'll wait and see if there are substantial improvement from other users' reviews. Depending upon your actual download speed, you can expect it to be hours.
Never tried the MapSource thing. Dwshouston, I downloaded on and it took 12 hours on a sprint 3g network. BobDee 14 years. Zecpull 14 years.
